Corporate user guide
Entering a sponsor code is optional. If no sponsor code is entered an unauthenticated link will be created and users will have to login to Westlaw with a password and client id.
Sponsor code
To create authenticated links you can enter your sponsor code (available from Westlaw UK Customer Support on 0800 028 2200) in the "For password-free links, enter your sponsor code..." form field. For example,
uksponsor-1000
Link formats (depends on form options filled in)
The link created by linkbuilder, depending on which options you filled in, will be in one of the formats listed below:
- No sponsor code
If you do not enter a sponsor code you will get an unauthenticated link to Westlaw UK content, which will require password login. The generated link will be in the following format:
<<link to Westlaw UK content>>
For example,
http://www.westlaw.com/find/default.wl?ForceTo=uk.westlaw.com&cite=%282000%29+E%2EM%2EL%2ER%2E+531&FindType=F&sv=Full&rs=UKIS1.0&vr=1.0
- Sponsor code
If you enter your sponsor code the created link will give you password-free access to Westlaw UK content. The generated link will be in the following format:
<<link to Westlaw UK content>>&sp=uksponsor-1000
For example,
http://www.westlaw.com/find/default.wl?ForceTo=uk.westlaw.com&cite=%282000%29+E%2EM%2EL%2ER%2E+531&FindType=F&sv=Full&rs=UKIS1.0&vr=1.0&sp=uksponsor-1000
The HTML code generated
Once you have filled in all the parts of the form that you wish to, click on the "Build Link" button. This will generate some HTML code in a textbox, and a test link for testing your link. Below is an example of the output in the textbox (based on option 2 above),

You can test the link by clicking on the test link below the textbox. The test link will have the text that you chose as your name for the link.
Finally, to use the link simply copy and paste the code in the textbox to your own intranet page.
To create a new link, clear the form by clicking on the "Create new link" button.
Academic user guide
Entering a sponsor code and/or a proxy are optional in all cases. If no sponsor code is entered an unauthenticated link will be created and users will have to login to Westlaw with a password and client id.
Proxy
To find out if you require a proxy please contact your institutions IT support. If your institution requires you to use a proxy to access external content you can enter the proxy details in the "Enter your proxy url" form field. For example,

If you enter your proxy and sponsor code you will have password-free access to the Westlaw UK content, after any login requirements of your own institution. The generated link will be in the following format:
http://myproxy.ac.uk/login.htm?url=<<link to Westlaw UK content>>uksponsor-000
For example,
http://myproxy.ac.uk/login.htm?url=http://www.westlaw.com/find/default.wl?ForceTo=uk.westlaw.com&cite=%282000%29+E%2EM%2EL%2ER%2E+531&FindType=F&sv=Full&rs=UKIS1.0&vr=1.0&sp=uksponsor-000
